Door Handing Chart
Determine the hand of any door before you order. Imperial USA doors and frames are handed according to the chart below.
This door handing chart shows how Imperial USA doors and frames are handed. To determine the hand of a door, view it from the outside — the side the hinges are on is the hand of the door. If the door swings away from you, it is a regular hand, either right or left. However, if it swings toward you, it is a reverse bevel. Refer to the diagrams below to identify the correct hand for your opening.

How to Use the Door Handing Chart
Understanding door handing is essential before you order doors, frames, or hardware. The hand determines how hinges, locksets, and exit devices are prepared. Furthermore, an incorrect hand can delay a project and require costly reordering.
For single doors, the four standard hands are right hand (RH), left hand (LH), right hand reverse bevel (RHRB), and left hand reverse bevel (LHRB). A reverse bevel simply means the door swings out toward the key side. In addition, double doors are designated by their active leaf, the leaf that operates first, as either LH active or RH active.
Use this door handing chart whenever you specify hardware, and always confirm the hand from the outside of the opening. When in doubt, our team can help you verify the correct hand for any door and frame configuration.
